Apple Music Now Has 60 Million Paid Subscribers

Apple Music has 60 million paid subscribers, according to iTunes chief Eddy Cue. Cue confirmed the new subscriber number with French site Numerama earlier today, and Music Business Worldwide shared details on the report.




Cue said that he's happy with Apple Music's subscriber count, and that the company is continually working on perfecting the platform across various devices. He also said that Beats 1, Apple's radio station, has "tens of millions of listeners."

Cue declined to divulge how many subscribers are outside of the Apple ecosystem. "I know the number, but I can't tell you," said Cue. He did, however, tell Numerama that Apple Music is the number one service used by people in the Apple ecosystem.




On the topic of the elimination of iTunes in favor of standalone TV, Music, and Podcast apps, Cue said that he's fond of iTunes, but "Apple Music is absolutely the best in all respects. We have something better now and it's useless to look back."






Apple Music's new 60 million subscriber milestone comes following a November report suggesting the service was up to 56 million subscribers. 60 million paid subscribers still puts Apple Music below Spotify, which had 100 million premium (aka paid) subscribers worldwide as of April.




Despite the difference in paid subscriber counts, Apple Music in early 2019 surpassed Spotify's paid subscriber total in the United States. Apple Music has somewhere around 28 million U.S. subscribers, compared to Spotify's 26 million.Read more:vidics alternatives

Apple Releases First Public Betas of iOS 13 and iPadOS

Apple today released the first public betas of iOS 13 and iPadOS to its public beta testing group, giving non-developers a chance to test out the software ahead of its upcoming fall release.

The first public beta of iOS 13 corresponds to the second developer beta released last week. Apple originally said that the public beta would be coming in July, but has apparently decided to release it a few days early. Apple's public beta testing website is still down, so public beta testers will not be able to install the software until it's up.

Beta testers who have signed up for Apple's beta testing program will receive the iOS 13beta update over-the-air after installing the proper certificate on an iOS device.






Those who want to join the beta testing program can sign up on Apple's beta testing website, which gives users access to iOS, macOS, and tvOS betas. Before installing a beta, make sure to create a full encrypted iTunes backup or an iCloud backup. It's best to install iOS 13 on a secondary device because beta software is not always stable and can include bugs.




iOS 13 is a major update to the iOS operating system that runs on the iPhone and the iPad, but this year, iOS 13 and iPadOS, the version of iOS 13 that runs on the iPad, are separate downloads as they've been split up.




iPadOS is identical to iOS 13 in almost every way, though there are some iPad-specific features such as new multitasking capabilities. For the most part, the two operating systems share the same features.




iOS 13 introduces a long list of new features. Dark Mode changes the entire look of the operating system, shifting it from light to dark, while an overhauled Photos app makes it easier to relive your memories with new Days, Months, and Years viewing options.

You can edit video right in the Photos app for the first time, and on the newest iPhones, there's a new High-Key Mono lighting effect and an option to adjust the intensity of Portrait Lightning effects.




There's a less obtrusive volume HUD, a new Find My app that combines Find My iPhone and Find My Friends and lets you track your devices even with they don't have an LTE or WiFi connection.

A Sign In with Apple feature (not yet active) gives you a convenient and data safe way to sign into apps and websites, providing an alternative to Facebook and Google sign in options.

The steps below show you how to set up this option to prevent the same blocked contacts from reaching your inbox.

1. First, make sure that the email address you want to block is linked to a contact in the Contacts app. To add an email to a selected contact, simply tap the Editbutton and then tap the green plus symbol next to the email entry. Once you've entered it, hit Done.
2. Next, launch the Settings app on your iPhone.
3. Scroll down and tap Mail.
4. Under the Threading options, tap the switch next to Ignore Blocked Senders to toggle it to the green ON position.

iOS 13 Code has References to the Apple’s Personal Item Tracker

A couple of months ago it was rumored that Apple is readying new hardware that looked like the Tile item tracker. As per the earlier rumors, the Tile could be attached to any item and will be paired with iCloud. Users will be able to get notifications once the tile moves far away from their device.

The users will also get notifications when the device is far away from the tag. However, one could neutralize the alarm in certain places like the house or office. In these places, the Tile would not trigger an alarm. Well, it seems like this rumor is going to be true after all. Developers, Steve Moser, and Rambo from 9to5Mac have found references to Apple’s item tracker on the iOS 13 code.

This new product will be a tag that can be attached to any item – similar to other products like Tile. The tag will be paired to a user’s iCloud account by proximity to an iPhone, like AirPods. Users will be able to receive notifications when their device gets too far away from the tag, preventing them from forgetting the item the tag is attached to.-Rambo

Apple seeded the first beta of iOS 13 to developers and advanced users today. Being a beta — and the first one at that — it is not without its own set of issues and bugs.
